Breast cancer affects men too…

[29 January 2007 - 11h31]
[mis à jour le 31 January 2007 à 15h20]

According to American researchers, men affected with breast cancer are at a particularly high risk of developing a second cancer, of the breast, stomach, bladder or even skin.

They must therefore be closely monitored”, say Hoda Anton-Culver and her colleagues at the University of California, in Irvine. For a very good reason: they consider that the level of risk is 16% higher compared with men who have had a first cancer in a different place.

It is true that breast cancer rarely occurs in men. “It’s exceptional” even, according to the National Cancer League. The Canadian Cancer Society says that it accounts for less than 1% of breast cancer cases.
