Cardiac rehabilitation to make your heart stronger
Researchers have shown that cardiac rehabilitation – also known as cardiac education – helps patients suffering from cardiovascular disease to improve their return to normal cardiac frequency (heart rate) after exercising.
The higher the resting heart rate, the greater the risk of premature death. According to cardiologists a resting heart rate is “high” if it is over 70 beats a minute.
American scientists placed patients suffering from heart conditions on an intense exercise programme: ten minutes of stretching followed by 30 to 50 minutes of aerobic exercise and 15 minutes of recovery time, 3 times a week.
Their results show that 41% of patients with a resting heart rate that was too fast returned to a normal heart rate by the end of this study. This is a form of cardiac education that produces good results … and no secondary effects.
