Choose your child’s toothbrush with care…

By the age of three, your little one should be learning to copy you and brush his teeth himself.
But it’s important to choose the brush and toothpaste he uses carefully. In the early stages, keep a watchful eye to make sure he brushes his teeth properly and for at least 2 minutes each time! And to help him get it right, buy him a special children’s toothbrush with a small head.
Choose a flexible brush that will allow him to brush every surface of his teeth without irritating his gums. Preferably it should have a small, narrow head so that he can reach the teeth at the back of his mouth more easily.
The bristles should be synthetic and quite soft and the handle of a size and shape to fit his little hand. And as soon as the bristles begin to look splayed and worn, replace the brush. Make sure that your child always uses his own brush so as to avoid any risk of contamination. And when it comes to toothpaste, choose one with a low fluoride content and get your child into the habit of putting only a pea-size amount on the brush. This is important as too much fluoride can cause discolouration of the teeth.
