During the first three months of life, infants cry on a regular basis, and they often cry a great deal…
In fact, crying is a baby’s way of communicating with you… because they’re hungry, tired or want human contact. Babies can cry for any number of reasons and when they do they are asking for your attention:
To calm your baby down, start by asking yourself some obvious questions. When did your baby last eat? Does he need his nappy changed? Is he hot because he’s wearing too many clothes?
Generally speaking, be generous with your cuddles. Often, simple contact will be enough to calm his crying;
Another very effective solution is to rock your baby;
In recent years, the benefits of massaging babies have been well and truly demonstrated! Try giving your baby a massage on his stomach or his back… the results are guaranteed;
You can also give your baby your little finger to suck, or a dummy (pacifier), though it won’t taste as good!
Or try distracting your baby by making him laugh – this has the added advantage of creating a moment of interaction between the two of you!
