Curcuma, the root that can save lives?
[mis à jour le 27 September 2006 à 09h01]
Treating colorectal cancer with a spice? This may seem like an odd idea, yet… if we are to believe apparently serious tests carried out on laboratory rats, curcuma blocks the activity of a hormone involved in the development of this type of cancer.
Curcuma – you must know what it is. It’s one of the main components of curry powder. And, apparently, a spice that provides hope against certain types of cancer.
According to a team at the University of Texas in Galveston, this spice has the power to inhibit the action of neurotensin, a hormone produced in the digestive system which plays “a role not only in tumour growth, but also in the migration of tumours to other organs or tissue”. This discovery could turn out to be very important, provided that it is validated by research using human beings!
