For a balanced, happy life… throw yourself into your work!
American psychologists have shown that fulfilment and good humour at home are dependent on our engagement in our working life. Their advice is that to get rid of stress we need to adopt a positive attitude.
Satoris Culbertson, professor of psychology at Kansas State University, puts it in simple terms: those people most dedicated to and engaged in their work are happier in their personal lives.
His study involved 67 university employees who were asked to open up about themselves by answering a questionnaire. Culbertson found that engagement at work varied greatly from one day to the next. Which is no real surprise, we must admit.
He points out especially that the degree of involvement in work, far from being a source of conflict, has a positive effect on family life. He also stresses the importance of being popular at work, of being able to share one’s ideas and exchange experiences. So … involvement is important, but so is recognition.
