Taking an afternoon rest is a response to our biological clock. The benefits have been widely proved but how long should this rest last to be fully effective?
A siesta is a moment of rest and relaxation that breaks up the day and helps you stay feeling good until evening. Everyone experiences this desire to sleep, but to differing extents, depending on age.
Infants and children up to the age of three or four have afternoon rests lasting more than three hours. For adults, the ideal period is from 10 to 20 minutes between 1 and 3 in the afternoon. Under normal circumstances, one shouldn’t sleep for too long to avoid sleeplessness later that night.
