It’s never too late to stop!
If you want to avoid getting coronary disease, it’s never too late to quit smoking. This principle holds true, whether it’s a matter of primary prevention – before the onset of angina or before a heart attack occurs – or secondary prevention, ie after the event in order to prevent relapses or recurrences.
According to various studies, cardiac risk decreases by 30% to 50% in the two years after giving up smoking. Conversely, recurrences and deaths are three times more frequent among those who continue to smoke after a heart attack.
