Marijuana with tobacco – an explosive combination for the lungs!

It seems that there is a considerably increased risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) among regular smokers who also consume marijuana. And the risk is even greater among those who also have respiratory disorders.
According to a Canadian study, the risk of COPD is 2.5 times higher among smokers than non-smokers and more than 3.5 times higher among those who consume both tobacco and marijuana. And that’s not all. A smoker who already has respiratory problems and combines tobacco and marijuana will see his risk of developing COPD increase 18-fold!
According to Dr Wan Tan of St Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, who conducted this study, “data like this has never before been published. But these results have a major impact in terms of public health”. They also show that the risk factors – here tobacco and marijuana – are not simply added together, they are actually multiplied.
