Migraine: a family history?

Good news for children and teenagers suffering from migraine. According to an Italian study, by adulthood almost one in every two no longer suffers from any symptoms. But this does not apply to patients who come from families with a history of migraine.
A team at the University of Parma followed the evolution of migraine symptoms in children and teenagers. After the age of ten, 38% of the latter no longer suffered from any migraine attacks, and 20% reported only low-intensity headaches.
However, over four out of every ten patients still suffered from real migraine in adulthood. In particular those whose parents had a history of migraine. According to the author, “their risk of continuing to suffer is seven times greater than for the others”.
