More than 3,000 pharmacists and health professionals from many French-speaking countries will come together on 6th and 7th of March in Marrakesh (Morocco) for the 6th Officine Expo international pharmacy show.
Pharmacist and event organiser Younès Belayachi explains: “ Officine Expo is now the reference show for southern Mediterranean pharmacy. It is held at the Mansour Eddahbi Convention Centre and this year we are expecting more than 3,000 visitors. We receive support from all the professional pharmacy bodies, universities, trade unions and the Ministry of Health”.
A place to meet and discuss, Officine Expo is also an opportunity for continuing professional training. Debates, lectures, technical workshops and other practical courses are available for the benefit of those attending. “The topics chosen this year are quite varied”, Younès Belayachi tells us. “Medication occupies an important place of course, but we shall also be looking at phytotherapy, parapharmacy and more technical subjects such as pharmacy taxation”.
A highlight of the 2009 exhibition is the round table: “Together building the pharmacy of tomorrow”. “Two hours of debate revisiting the bases on which pharmacy is built in order to adapt it to the demands of tomorrow”, continues Belayachi. “What supporting measures can be put in place to the develop distribution of generic drugs? How can the third party payment system be made more widespread in Morocco? How can we best prepare for the arrival of parapharmacy in our country, etc ”. All these are strategic questions that will be addressed by speakers and participants. “This year we are honoured to welcome a number of pharmacists’ delegations from Algeria, Tunisia and also from France”.
