Pregnant and hungry? It must be a boy!
If you’re expecting a baby and find that you’re eating not for two but for four there’s a strong chance that you’re carrying a boy! This is the conclusion reached by Dr Trichopoulos of Boston after studying over 240 pregnant women. Those expecting boys consumed 10% more calories than those who gave birth to girls: they ate an additional 8% protein, 9% slow-release sugars, 11% dairy products and 15% vegetable fats.
Carrying a boy appears to require more energy on the part of the mother-to-be than carrying a girl. It would seem that male babies have found a way of sending an hormonal signal that triggers the sensation of hunger in their mother. The little monkeys…
