Prostate cancer – keeping active is best
Is it possible to extend life while suffering from prostate cancer by taking regular exercise? This is what American doctors are suggesting. Walking, running, cycling or quite simply gardening: 15 minutes exercise a day is enough to improve patients’ general state of health.
A team at Harvard University in the United States has measured the impact of exercise on 2,700 men suffering from prostate cancer. The study took place over almost 18 years.
Generally speaking, and unsurprisingly, researchers observed benefits to general health at very accessible levels of exercise. Which is why they are encouraging patients to walk, pedal or run … if only for 15 minutes a day.
However, it seems that there are more significant benefits in terms of extending life for those who exercise at least 3 hours a week. The risk of premature death fell by 61% among patients who exercised energetically for more than 3 hours, compared with those who did only one hour of exercise a week.
