Some simple tips for a healthy pregnancy…
Being pregnant is not an illness and if all goes normally there’s no reason why you shouldn’t continue to enjoy some sensible exercise.
Such as swimming, walking and even cycling up to the end of the second term. What’s more, keeping fit and in good physical condition will make giving birth easier!
But exercise alone is not enough. You also need to eat a balanced diet because good health begins with what we eat.And as far as mums-to-be are concerned, that means eating plenty of green vegetables which are rich in vitamin B9 – also known as folate or folic acid. In fact it’s very important to get sufficient amounts of folic acid as early as two months prior to conception and then throughout pregnancy.
Why? Because folic acid deficiency can lead to serious malformations in babies. Folic acid is found in Swiss chard, lettuce, chicory and cabbage, leeks, artichokes and spinach … in fact in most green vegetables. These will also provide you with significant amounts of iron, which is important for avoiding anaemia.
