Taking care of our eyes…

[16 March 2010 - 14h41]

Taking care of our eyes…

Our eyes are a precious gift and we must take great care of them. Dust, wind, dry air, pollution, bacteria… They have to withstand a lot of harsh treatment.

Hence the importance of daily, meticulous cleansing. And be careful what you believe! A quick wash of the face is not enough to take care of our eyes. They need to be given a proper cleansing of their own. This should be done separately as the eyelids and eyelashes are very fragile. Here are a few tips for keeping your eyes in good health.

Once a day, clean the rim of your eyelids with a cotton bud and special cleansing gel. This can be easily obtained from your pharmacy.

Take care always to clean by wiping from the outside towards the top of the nose, not the other way around. This is to avoid pulling the lower lid away, which could mean dead skin on the rim being pushed into the eye. You might also consider using sterile cleansing pads – one for each eye – the kind specially designed for eye washing. These are very practical and cleanse the eyes while also soothing them, which feels really good…

And remember, taking good care of your eyes isn’t optional. Regular eye care is essential. If not, there is a considerable risk of repeated infections and damage to your eyesight.
