There’s really no excuse for not getting some exercise!
It’s too expensive … I don’t have time ! Haven’t we all skipped a session at the swimming pool or not gone running by trotting out such excuses? But admit it – there are some kinds of intensive sport and exercise that you can do anywhere and anytime! So there’s really no excuse to miss out on it.
Exercise is expensive? Not really! There are types of exercise that don’t necessarily require equipment. Walking, for example. This is something that is recommended for everyone: you can do it anywhere and it doesn’t cost a penny.
You think you don’t have enough time? That’s another myth! Thirty minutes a day, five days a week will be enough to improve your state of health and help keep you fit. You can even stagger it over the course of the day. You can also make the things you do each day become part of your exercise routine: carrying the shopping, taking the stairs not the lift, going to work by bike not car … all it takes is a little motivation!
Children need an hour’s exercise every day to ensure healthy growth. However, this is something that is rarely achieved. Less than a third of young people get enough exercise. Fewer and fewer children cycle or walk to school … so start by unplugging the TV and the games console and get your children to spend time outdoors…
Older people too need to keep moving! This will help keep cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis etc at bay. And sport also helps to combat cognitive disorders such as depression and anxiety, for example.
