Those very precious centimetres
Gentlemen, check that you haven’t lost too many centimetres during your lifetime. For according to a British study, the fact of losing three centimetres around the age of 60 exposes men to increased risk of coronary disease.
Pr Goya Wannamethee at the Royal Free and University College Medical School in London studied the implications of loss of height on the health of 4,213 men. All of them were measured in 1980, and again 20 years later .
On average, they had lost 1.68 centimetres during these 20 years. But over 600 of them had lost over three centimetres. The latter had a 64% higher risk of death compared with those who had lost only one centimetre. For the moment, the authors have no explanation for this.
